Liberal Statists and Conservative Theocrats: Just a bag of mixed nuts

I can't help but wonder exactly why it is that both sides bother me so. On one end, you have the Obama-Spendocrats running wild with our money and claiming anyone who opposes them is a racist, a reactionary, and/or a dangerous person. Along with this nuttiness, you get various cashews and walnuts like Graham and Dodd plotting away at which American freedoms we should surrender next.

So, like most people infuriated with the current administrations agenda, I look to my right and see what? Arizona has suspended the Constitution if you happen to appear ethnically oriented. Oh yes, if you're brown or just funny looking and a police office thinks you might not be an American; they can now demand that you prove you are. Is this OK? Check your premises. Will this stop illegal immigration? No! Will this deter illegal entry into this country? No! Will this place an additional and dangerous burden on our police officers? Yes, it will and you better bet that they will face the legal brunt of the rebuttal to this non-sense.

But it gets worse. Sarah Palin is the bright, shining star of the modern Theo-Conservatism movement. Oh yes, I'm referring to Sarah Palin's speech in which she says

"God truly has shed his grace on thee -- on this country. He's blessed us, and we better not blow it...

...Lest anyone try to convince you that God should be separated from the state, our founding fathers, they were believers. And George Washington, he saw faith in God as basic to life."

Sure, this isn't new nuttiness. But if you're opposed to the current Statist regime, you get stuck in the same crowd as Palin and Arizona. You're flagged as a racists, reactionary that clings to religion and hatred. It is like standing up to defend something and having that drunken, moron standing behind you saying "He's right!" I don't wish to be associated with you.

So, here is our conumdrum. To one side, we have the Statists with federal control over everything you do. Padding for every sharp edge, limits to all ability, safety for all lest someone dare rise above and succeed and taxes, taxes, taxes. Oh, and death for those who don't tow the line.

Or, the closed-minded ranks of a Theocracy. Where you best believe in Creation, the Christian God (sorry Jews, etc) and you must not think for yourself. Please refer all questions to this book written (supposedly) thousands of years ago. And should you choose to disobey; you get death. Probably by beheading, hanging, maybe torture or something equally unpleasant. If this isn't clear, just refer to the Taliban playbook and change all references to Allah with God.

Seems to me that it's Cake or Death; and neither side is serving cake.
